Display

At first glance, there is no significant difference between both the phones. The A116 as well as Micromax Canvas 4 sports same IPS LCD touchscreen display which support 16 million colors. Major addition to the display is the Corning Gorilla Glass. It's the first Micromax phone to have the Coring Gorilla Glass. The size of the screens remains the same - 5 inches and there is no upgrade in terms of ppi which is 294. The display has standard resolution of 720x1280.

We were expecting some improvements in the display section but apart from gorilla glass protection, there is nothing new. Canvas 4 is great looker and phone's appearance has tweaked and it look is similar to Samsung Galaxy devices.

Processor & Os

Micromax A116 HD was launched with Android jellybean 4.1.2 and it has already received the 4.2 update. Canvas 4 comes with the out of the box jellybean 4.2.2 OS, so you don't have to wait for new updates. The couple uses identical processor and the chipset. Let us tell you that Micromax uses meditek chipset for it's all leading smartphones.

CPU: Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7
Chipset: MTK MT6589

Memory

There has been improvements in the internal memory. The A116 has just 4GB of internal memory and new Canvas 4 A210 has 16 GB of internal memory. Only 10 GB is available for users and other will be used for the operating system and default functions. The memory is expandable upto 32GB using microSD card.

Camera

Canvas 4 sports primary camera with 13 mega pixel which looks better than the  Micromax A116's 8 Mega Pixel shooter. On paper, the 13 MP camera looks amazing but camera is one the sections where micromax has always under-performed.

The smartphone cameras have auto focus as well as LED flash which comes handy while taking pictures in low light. Having 5 MP as front cam is another shocker as even leading smartphone's have never used 5 mega-pixel camera at the front.

Verdict

Upgrading to Canvas 4 doesn't make sense as it's the same A116 with better camera and memory. Gorilla Glass is not a deal breaker and the core hardware is same.Considering current prices, paying $210 for A116 is the better deal.
