iPhone 5 Case - Speck CandyShell Review

The iPhone5 is was launched by Apple in September 2012 and the demand for it is still going strong thanks to Apple's new A6 chip which gives it twice the processing power and most of all due to the design and finish of the handset. The phone looks similar to the 4S when you look at it from afar but upclose you notice how different it is due to its little details. The first thing you notice when you pick up the phone is its weight and its sleek matte finish thanks to anodized aluminum used by Apple which makes it a pleasure to even hold the phone.
With such a beautiful design it is only natural to want to protect your phone from scuffs and scratches using a protective case. While any case you use will reduce the wow factor of the phone, it ensures that your phone is still protected and dent-free if you clumsily drop it once in a while. The site mobilefun.com was kind enough to send us a sample case of the Speck Candy Shell for the iPhone 5 to test it out and we have to say, it is definitely one of the best cases out of all the hordes of available iPhone5 cases

Speck CandyShell case for iPhone 5

The case itself looks very trendy and stylish due to its black etchings in the corners on the background of white. Speck usually has great looking cases and this one is no different. The case itself is composed of two layers, the inner layer is made of soft rubber which is shock absorbent and the outer layer is hard plastic thus giving it a good balance of shock absorbers and toughness.

The CandyShell case has soft silicon buttons over the power and the volume buttons which are preferable over cutouts which a lot of cases have thus making them hard to reach. The case has the necessary cutouts for the earphones, lightning cable, the mute button and the camera and all of them are aptly sized so as to not hinder the actual cables while plugging them in. Even the phone's speakers are covered by perforated plastic so they don't muffle the sound of the phone much compared to the sound without any case.

Speck has provided the front of the case with a slightly raised rubber so that the phone when cased can be placed on its screen and not necessarily on its back. This little attention to detail really impressed me and though the rubber might wear out over time due to wear and tear it is a good feature to have.

The case does have a quirk though, the case does slip from your hand sometimes seeing that it is made of hard plastic and I have to keep in mind to have my hands completely dry so as to not drop the phone.

Apart from that, as we said earlier the case gets almost everything right and doesn't do much wrong... it is solid, sturdy and shock absorbent all the while maintaining a really stylish look. We're impressed.
