List of IP57 (Waterproof) & IP67 (Dustproof) certified Android smartphones

Today, we are living in an era where smartphones and tablets have become the new norm and we've reached the point where people are sometimes not even happy with just quad core or ultra pixel cameras.Waterproofing capacity is not something we usually look for in our phone when we are looking for one but Galaxy S4 Active and Sony Xperia Z are IP57 certified waterproof and dust resistant Android phone which has again put these two capabilities as minor requirements in people's minds. With that interest in mind we have compiled a list of Android phones which have been launched with IP57 and IP67 certifications.
For those who are still wondering how the numbering convention assigns the certification, here's what every number stands for.

7:- Certified Waterproof phone
6:- Certified dust proof phone
5:- Dust resistant phone

Resistance doesn't guaranty that there will be absolute dust protection. There will be slight possibility that small amount of dirt might go into the device but that the quality of the phone will not be affected in case of accidents and a reasonable functioning of the phone will still be available.

IP57 certified Android Phones

Xperia Z & Xperia ZR

Sony's latest flagship device Xperia Z is a waterproof and dust resistant phone. It features 13MP camera and runs on the Android Jellybean 4.1. Sony has explicitly warned customers to make sure that they close all the protective flaps properly in order to maintain its waterproofing.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

Waterproof Version of samsung's flagship device- galaxy S4. The features are not identical to but still S4's active version is good value for money considering its unique features.

Xperia V

Another high end from sony which is a ip57 certified phone. It features 13 MP camera along with a 1.5 Ghz processor and it can combat with the water up to 1 meter and 30 minutes.

Xperia Z Ultra

A bigger version of the flagship device - 6.4 inch of screen which comes with waterproofing capacity.

Motorola X

This is the upcoming phone created by Motorola and expected to be launched in the 3rd quarter of 2013. The device rumored to have IP57 certification. Motorola is well known for creating IP57 certified devices like Motorola Defy & Atrix 2.

IP67 certfied phones

Galaxy Xcover 2

The Galaxy Xcover 2 has got its IP67 certification and as for the statistics, the phone can stay under water for a miraculous 30 minutes. If the accident prevention is your primary buying point then the Galaxy Xcover2 is your phone to buy because if not for its dust proof and waterproof guarantees and there is nothing special apart from it's unique features.

Sony Xperia Go

It has 3.5 inch scratch-resistant display and IP67 certification. The phone is certified as a completely dustproof, scratch proof and waterproof phone which offers a great option for people who are willing to buy a durable phone without paying much.

So far these are the phones released that offer the certified guarantees. Do you think that there is a phone that we've missed out and should be on the list? Or have you had any noticeable problems with one of these phones? Let us know in the comments.

Compare Samsung Galaxy Grand vs Samsung Galaxy S2

Comparing Samsung Galaxy Grand vs  Samsung Galaxy S2

Samsung Galaxy Grand is newest entry in Galaxy series of Smartphones. On the first impression of Galaxy grand is that it is a low budget sibling of the popular Note 2. It offers option for Android lovers to enjoy the whopping 5 inch screen while still keeping their pockets intact. Let's see how Samsung's Galaxy S2 fares in terms of hardware and software. Both the phones will have their respective group of loyalists but it would be interesting to see the comparison.

Display : S2's AMOLED screen is better

The most impressive parts of S2 was it's  AMOLED screen. Though it looked little pale every time, the picture quality offered was crisp and colors were vibrant. Grand's 5 inch screen offers just 187 ppi which is just barely average. Galaxy S2's display offers same  resolution of 480 x 800 pixels with better 217ppi. The AMOLED screen of S2 beats the plain Capacitive touchscreen of Grand. You could easily separate one pixel from another on the larger screen which is an indicator that the display is not upto the mark.

If picture clarity and colors is what matters to you the most, go for Galaxy S2 or if you are a fan of bigger screen and dont mind sacrificing on the picture sharpness, the Grand is for you.

Processor & O.S. -  Grand gets an edge

Both the Galaxy Grand as well as Galaxy S2 are powered by similar 1.2 GHz dual core processors. The Galaxy S2 has a Mali 400 GPU to backup its processor. Though there is not much difference in terms of processor, Grand comes with out of the box Android Jellybean 4.1 which is much better than ICS that is shipped with Galaxy S2.

Samsung yet to provide JellyBean update for S2 which means Grand gets clear edge in terms of Operating System thanks to upgrades and features like Google Now. Grand is the second Samsung phone that comes with JellyBean out of the box after Note 2.

Design and body

We always loved S2's design. It's slim, sleek and very light device. Galaxy Grand's bigger screen makes it cumbersome to hold but once when you will get used to it, you will enjoy the charisma of bigger screen.

In sprite of the fact that both the phones have 'plasticky' look , Grand has a touch of that 'premium' class which can not ignored. Grand is slightly heavier thanks to its size but it feels great to hold the device in your hand and look at the big screen.

Apart from these major factors, S2 has internal memory of 16 GB compared to the 8 GB of Galaxy Grand.

Price - Grand is our Pick

We were quite amazed to see the fact that Galaxy Grand has been launched with an introductory price  lesser that that of S2's. Galaxy Grand features 8 MP back camera, 2 MP front camera and 5 inch screen and still costs less that current market price of the Galaxy S2. Galaxy Grand wins when it's about affordability it is definitely worth buying as it is much more newer compared to the S2 which even though is a great phone is now ancient in the electronic world.

Samsung Galaxy Phones for the Mid-level Price Range

Samsung Galaxy Grand

Samsung has already released Galaxy Grand in all the major countries. Grand is an ideal choice for people who wish to enjoy the whim of having a device with a bigger screen in affordable pricing. The smartphone  has key features like Android Jellybean 4.1.2, 1.2 GHz dual core processor and whooping 5 inch screen though it falls a little short on the screen resolution.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus

It's amazing to see that both phones are running on Android jellybean with such lower hardware and offer most of the coveted features of every smartphone at such an affordable pricing.

Cordy 2 Game Review for iOS and Android - Fun Platformer with Amazing Visuals!

Cordy 2 released for iOS and Android Devices

Gone are the days when the Android developers had to wait for weeks to play their new games while friends with their iOS counterparts were busy setting high scores. Cordy 2, the sequel to the popular game Cordy has been launched a few days ago simultaneously for both iOS and Android Devices and is climbing the charts thanks to its beautiful design and visuals, arcade style music and its game play which is reminiscent of the old school classic games like Mario and Sonic.

Cordy 2 Review and Gameplay

The first thing you notice when you start playing the game are its stunning visuals with its bright neon colorings and cartoon-ey characters. You play as Cordy who is a robot with a CRT monitor for a face and are tasked with saving your fellow automated friends from the evil Boogaloo.

The gameplay itself looks very similar to Mario in which you have to jump, double jump platforms and stomp enemies but add in the twist of Sonic style gameplay with the bouncing off springs and running into the mix. The result sounds a pain in theory but is executed extremely well and the game is a ton of fun to play.

Even though the gameplay is well designed, executed and a lot of fun... it is the graphics that keep things interesting in the game. The levels are all beautifully designed while trying to blend a old school platformer into a 3D game with lots of attention to detail

Does Cordy 2 lag?

There is always a downside to building a game with such beautiful graphics. We tested the Cordy 2 on an iPhone 5, iPhone 4, Sony Xperia S and a Samsung Galaxy S3 and the game ran flawlessly without any noticeable lag. The game is compatible with a lot of devices though we're assuming there might be some problems with the framerate on the older devices which may result in some lag but that is to be expected nowadays where the games are requiring more and more processor power to run them.

Cordy 2 Prices

The Cordy 2 game follows a different pricing model than the rest of the games nowadays where it gives you a few levels to play for free and then charges $4.99 to unlock the rest of the levels. While a few users may see this as a sort of trick to lure them to download the game, it would be silly to assume that a game as beautifully designed as this would be given for free without a catch. But is it worth the $4.99? Id say no... No matter how good the game is it would have been right at home with a $1.99 or a $2.99 price tag.

You can download the game from the following links to try it out. Let us know what you think of the game in the comments.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Bugs and List Of Known Issues

Android has now reached the point where it is now starting to make a dent in the iOS armor. More and more users now prefer Android over Apple as it is becoming more and more refined and because of its customizable nature. Google recently released Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as an incremental update over the 4.1 release. This new version of the OS however is proving to be one of the most bug-ridden releases of Google yet. This would have been okay if the OS was a complete overhaul of the previous one, instead the existence of bugs in an incremental update just screams carelessness on Google's part. Here are a list of known issues.

Missing December

One of the first bugs to be found in Jelly Bean 4.2 Contacts application was that the month of December was missing from the Calender. The Mayans might have made their calender up till December 2012 while Google decided to omit the whole month itself!

Battery Drain caused by services like Google Exchange

The 4.2 update has a major battery drain problem causing a lot of people to actually hate their devices. Not a good place to be when you're trying to make a name for your OS. Users are reporting their Nexus devices running down to below 10% without any use in a matter of 40 hours. Some users are having problems with the Exchange accounts which are causing a massive drain in their battery. Another issue which cant really be classified as a bug is that the LTE uses up a lot of battery. While alone that might not be an issue, add in one battery drain bug and you have a problem.

Auto-Brightness

The auto-brightness causes the nexus device to flicker randomly especially at lower levels. This problem has been present before too but it has become worse in the 4.2 update. The device adjusts the brightness even though there is no change in the lighting at all, as if the senor is extremely sensitive and is recalibrating itself on every minor change. The result is extremely annoying when you're trying to just get some work done while your device tries to mimic a poor disco light.

Random Reboots

This one is a serious bug. While the others may inconvenience you a little, random reboots are never a good thing, even when the device is idle. That's exactly whats happening, all the updated nexus devices randomly reboot themselves when its sitting idle with the display off. As its occurring in all of the nexus devices so its probably some piece of software conflicting causing a crash. This can be pretty unsettling for a first time user who is maybe trying out some new things or customization and then has to witness something of a kernel panic where everything freezes and the device reboots causing him to think he might have bricked the device and then realize it was a false alarm.

Broken Bluetooth

Disconnected Audio streams, broken connectivity with Apps that sync up to Wii controllers, errors while trying to connect to devices all these make part of an extremely frustrating user experience because there is no reason for a bug to be present in a technology that has been perfected ages ago.

Instability

4.1 was a huge success thanks to 'Project Butter' however this new release has made it less so thanks to the random lags and forcible shutdowns. The OS has gotten slower, the devices are turning on randomly without any interaction by the user and some users are reporting that Apps are forcibly closing for no reason.
Another inconsistency is with the Camera App. When switching from Portrait to Landscape mode the whole display is rotated instead of just the buttons and it takes the app a couple of seconds to even realize that it has switched its orientation.

Widgets

A new feature that was added in the Widgets department were the Lock-screen Widgets. However they are riddled with and glitches affecting them across all devices. Lock-screen music controls for Google Music are disappearing if a third party app is started, stopped, and then Google Music is started again, not reappearing until the device is rebooted.

Broken LEAP Wi-Fi

Another bug that's being brought up by a lot of users on the xda forum is that after updating to the stock Android 4.2, they are not able to connect to their WPA2-EAP Wi-Fi using LEAP. The status shows as 'connecting' for a while and then disconnects because of a time-out.

Even though most of the bugs aren't game breaking, its pretty frustrating to have an unstable device. This isn't a good thing for Google when its trying to make a name for itself with a competitor like iOS and that too when people are finally willing to give Android a shot thinking its come a long way. Google hasn't announced when it will provide a fix for the bugs but it has to be soon, based on the number of threads being created the users don't seem to have a lot of patience left.

If you know of some more bugs that haven't been mentioned, let us know in the comments and we will update our list.

Samsung Galaxy S4 - Rumors, Expected specs and features

Samsung Galaxy S4 - Rumors, Expected specs and features

Following its flagship S3 expectations are that Samsung Galaxy S4 will be the next big thing in upcoming year. It is going to be Samsung's biggest launch in 2013. After Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung will be coming up with successor of legendary S3. The: Korean giant Samsung is preparing for the event which will be held in January 2013. It is rumored that Samsung is likely to showcase the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy S4 expected features & price
Samsung Galaxy S4- iPhone 5 killer ?

Rumored specification of Galaxy S4

The benchmark set by Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2 are quite high and Samsung has to dazzle the fans with something which is much better than these devices and every other device on the market. If Google comes up with key lime pie, Samsung Galaxy S4 will be launched with the advanced version of Android Key Lime Pie.

Bigger and better display

A lot has been discussed over the display of Galaxy S4. It will be HD display with expected resolution of 1920x1080. Samsung will make sure that it's display will have better resolution than the iPhone 5. The HD display to support 1080p content.

Galaxy S4  with 12 megapixel camera

I think it's high time for Samsung to come up with better cameras. Samsung has been experimenting only with the eight megapixel cameras. Galaxy S4 could be their first phone to get 12 megapixel camera. Sony Xperia already have many phones having 12 megapixel camera.

More than Quad Core for Galaxy S4

Samsung has started working on 8 core processor. Practically, a quad core processor is more than enough for any present Android app or whatever functionality you can think to use on our phone. People hardly use applications which will need more juice than what is given out by a Quad Core processor.

We're pretty sure that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will not have it 8-core processor but it would be quite interesting to see what else they could do to enhance a processor and chipset.

This android phone has features very similar to the legendary S2 in terms of hardware. It's very clear that it inherits looks of  Galaxy S3.
Galaxy Premier I9260 Vs Samsung Galaxy S3
We couldn't separate this device from another launch by samsung in this month -  Samsung Galaxy S3 MINI

Hardware - Galaxy S3 wins

Galaxy S3 scores much better than Galaxy Premier in terms of hardware. S3 has 1.4 GHz Quad-core Cortex-A9 processor which is far more better than Premier's dual core processor of 1.5 GHz. S3 has Mali-400MP GPU where as Premier is loaded with PowerVR SGX544.

Display - its a tie

There are no big differences in terms of display as both smartphones have super AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution which is the best for 4.8 inch screen of Galaxy S3. Galaxy Premier has smaller display of 4.65 inches.

Both the android phones have 1 GB ram to support the respective processors.

OS - jellybean vs ics

Galaxy Premier I9260 comes with 'out of the box' jellybean & that's the only thing we liked about Galaxy Premier. Galaxy S3 comes with android 4.0 ICS but as we all know S3 is already getting jellybean update in  many countries & Galaxy S3 will surely get the key lime pie update.

Camera - S3 gets an edge

Every  high end Samsung Galaxy device is loaded with 8 mega pixel camera. Galaxy Premier I9260  and Samsung Galaxy S3 are not an exception for this factor.

S3 gets an edge for it's  features like Simultaneous HD video and image recording, face and smile detection, image stabilization which are not present in the Samsung Galaxy Premier.

Prices - Galaxy Premier is overpriced

This factor made us think about samsung's pricing strategies. Ideally it is suppose to be priced more than galaxy s2 , galaxy s3 mini & lesser than Galaxy S3. but the current pricing shows that it is going to cost more than the Galaxy S3 cots. That is quite disappointing for those who are looking for some good alternative to s2.

when LG is coming up with NEXUS 4 which costs just $299, we fear that Premier will be just another overpriced android smartphone.

Google LG Nexus 4 - Pros & Features compared to other Android phones

Google LG Nexus 4 - Pros & Advantages

Google launched three new Nexus devices on Oct 29th, The Nexus 10" tablet, a Nexus 7 with cellular option and a new Nexus phone: The LG Nexus 4. The phone as both pros and cons as with every phone but the phone seems very impressive with LG taking its turn at building a smartphone this time rather than Samsung. Here are what we think the major selling points in Google's latest offering

Also read : Cons of Google LG Nexus 4

Specs of Nexus 4

The internals of the Nexus 4 are packed to the core; coming in with 2GB of RAM as standard, a 2,100 mAh battery (10 hours talk-time), NFC for transferring files or making payments, Bluetooth, and your usual Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n support. This phone blows away the competition because most phones at this price usually offer somewhere around 1GB RAM and a dual core processor if you're lucky

Display

The Nexus 4 comes with a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1280×768, which equates to 320 ppi. The screen might be a downer for geeks who have fallen in love with the Galaxy Nexus’ Super AMOLED HD display, but keep in mind that an IPS display panel is much more sharper and doesn’t have that grainy look to it, unlike AMOLED. And also, the display has a 16:10 ratio instead of 16:9, which makes the makes the display of the Nexus 4 wider, and not taller compared to the Galaxy Nexus.

Camera

The camera has been improved over the Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus 4 comes with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Low-light performance has been given a significant boost over previous generation Nexus devices, hence you can be rest assured that the device will take more than satisfactory photos even in low-light conditions. But that’s not all, the Nexus 4 is the first device ever which allows us to take 360° panoramas!

Pricing

The Nexus 4 will be available on November 13th, the 8GB model will retail for $299 and the 16GB model for $349. There are no details on which carriers it will be available on at first.

Bonus Points

- It is a Nexus Device so we get timely updates for the latest Android instead of waiting like the OEM supported Android phones. For most Android power users this is a big deal as they get the full unadulterated version of their favorite OS.

- Even though the device offers a 16GB model (which is way too less) it supports USB on the go (USB-OTG) which means you can connect a flash drive to it with a special cable and have all your media stored on the flash.

- The pricing has been mentioned once in the post, but its almost unbelievable how cheap the phone is compared to what it offers. The phone would be right at home in the 500$ category instead it retails for a 299$ price which is a steal.

Biggest Disadvantages & Cons of Google LG Nexus 4

Biggest Disadvantages & Cons of Google LG Nexus 4

Google just launched three new Nexus devices on October 29th, one of it being the highly awaited LG Nexus 4 Smartphone. The phone is pretty competitive with its amazing specs and can hold its own in a 500$ smartphone market but the best part of it which has every Android user thrilled is that it starts at 299$.

LG takes its shot at delivering a Nexus device this time, with the Nexus 4, an Android 4.2-powered handset with a 4.7-inch 1280×768 display, 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, an 8MP rear-facing camera and 8 or 16GB of internal storage. It offers has 2 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, NFC and Bluetooth built in. However, even though the phone offers its value for money, everything comes at a price and once you think about it, there has to be things that Google must have sacrificed to touch the 299$ mark. Here's what we think are the biggest disappointments in the phone.

No LTE

LTE is a big deal for the US customers. In the rest of the world it might not matter much but in the US it is a big disadvantage. Even though the phone does support HSPA+ the biggest fall is in the mind of the Android fan who mocked every iPhone 'zombie' for going with a phone not capable of supporting LTE when Android did.
Google doesn’t think LTE is ready for prime time, but we beg to differ. Optional LTE for the US market would have been great, but Google obviously did the math and concluded that it’s not worth the effort. Lack of LTE will definately be a deal breaker for many US consumers.

Storage

It is understandable that Google had to cut corners to bring down the price but a phone with 8GB is ridiculous. After the OS that leaves about 4-5GB of storage space for the user. This is a big disadvantage at a time when a single game can touch 1-1.5GB in size. The 16GB option might be okay for people who are not hooked to games and media but where is the 32GB option? It is usually the storage size most people prefer and Google doesn't offer it.

No Micro-SD slot

Let alone the fact that Google itself didn't offer many options in the storage department but the user cant use expandable memory? This is another huge con for the Nexus 4 in the pros and cons comparison of the phone with others. By itself it might not have been so bad if the other Android smartphones didn't offer this option.

The Bigger Picture

However the worst problem is usually the bigger picture. With the Nexus 4 phone, Google underhanded the OEM Android makers and showed people that a good and an affordable Android phone is possible. Effectively it made its supporters into its competitors which is never a good thing to do considering that fact that Google relies on them to gain more Android customers.

All this being said, we have to remember that at the price of 299$ more than a few people will be willing to compromise on these points but then quite a few will shift their loyalties too... especially with tempting options like HTC and Samsung. What would you as a user prefer? A Samsung or an HTC phone or the new Nexus 4 and why? Leave us your thoughts in the comments.

It would be very interesting to see how mobile manufacturers are going to please the buyers with KLP update as most of the smartphones with ICS are yet to get a JellyBean update. We have created a list of phones which we think are likely to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update as they are the flagship devices of each handset maker.

Samsung devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has made a big impression in the market will definitely be among the first few phones to get the Android Key Lime Pie update. It is one of the best phones offered by Samsung and they will want to keep ahead of the competition by offering support to a device that has such a huge following.

Samsung Galaxy S4 & Galaxy S3
Another flagship Samsung device which has made waves is the Samsung Galaxy S4. It has been the hottest selling phone offered by Samsung and is very likely to get android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update because disappointing such a huge fan base would not really be a smart move for the handset maker.

HTC devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

HTC One M7, One  X, One X+ & HTC One XL
HTC's new flagship phone - HTC One M7 & One X will surely get the KLP update. One X, its sibling One XL and its upgrade the One X+ are mobile phones with great hardware and topped the list of various benchmark tests conducted on Android devices. HTC might not release a ton of phones each year but when they do release them, they tend to be spot on with what the market expects.

HTC One S
One S is a great phone but in some of the countries like India, the One S has been launched with a different set of hardware and that's why we aren't sure if the One S will get an KLP update or not.

HTC Droid DNA
The newest phone launched by HTC has an amazing set of hardware and a brilliant screen to go along with it. The Droid DNA will definitely sell well thanks to its gorgeous 400ppi 5 inch screen and as with all manufacturers, its their priority to always support their best phones, making the Doid DNA a sure shot for the Key Lime Pie update.

Sony devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

Sony has recently announced that it's older 2011 Xperia phones will not be getting the Jelly Bean update which include Sony Xperia Arc Sand the Xperia Mini Pro.

Sony Xperia S & Sony Xperia P
Sony has confirmed the Jellybean update for the both phones and while they will be old by then, they're still popular phones and most probably they will be getting the Key Lime Pie update too.

Sony Xperia ION
Xperia ION is another great Android device with a good spec sheet and has been decent in its popularity and should get the Android 5.0 KLP in it.

LG devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

LG Nexus 4
LG & Google's NEXUS which has been recently released comes in two variants, one with stock Android in it bought from Google Play and one with the LG's flavor of Android in it. While the Nexus 4 will get a stock Android update, LG will definitely want to support their newest flagship device and provide it with the Key Lime Pie update whenever it is released.

LG Optimus G
Another popular device from LG, this was the best selling device before the Nexus 4 was launched thus making it a default receiver of the Key Lime Pie update.

While this list is based on speculation, do you think there is any good contender phone that we missed out which will get the KLP update? If so, let us know in the comments section.
